ReadiTech takes care of the technology so SRCTC can take care of the students.
At Southeast Region Career and Technology Center (SRCTC), students can explore careers from agriculture and automotive technology to entrepreneurship and EMT services. SRCTC offers educational experiences at the school’s Oakes facility, North Dakota State College of Science Campus, and Center Office in Wahpeton, while students across the region can participate virtually through the Greater Southeast Interactive TV (ITV) System.
“The communities that we serve are very rural, and we’re able to provide them opportunities that they would’ve probably never had,” said SRCTC Director Dan Spellerberg.
Each year, SRCTC’s in-person and ITV courses reach roughly 1,700 North Dakota students.
“When you learn by doing something, it really sticks with you. And I think that providing these types of opportunities is essential in making sure that the kids find their passion, what they love, what they want to do,” Spellerberg said.
One such student who discovered his passion at SRCTC is Tyler Zahn. Zahn had the opportunity to attend several courses through SRCTC before graduating from nearby Edgeley High School in 2019. Now, as a Network Assistant at ReadiTech, he is using the skills he acquired at SRCTC to help students like himself explore their future careers through technology.
“I think doing classes through the Tech Center really helped me shape my character,” Zahn said. “I learned all sorts of skills and lessons to better myself as a person.”
In our digital age, it is important for all schools to have access to high-speed, reliable internet and functional educational technology. For SRCTC, it is essential. The Tech Center relies on technology to transmit their ITV courses to rural communities, as well as to offer high-tech workshops on topics such as aviation, video editing, and robotics.
“‘Technology’ is embedded in the Southeast Region Career and Technology Center’s name,” Spellerberg said. “We’re dedicated to making sure that our students have the best IT services available, and ReadiTech has really been a great partner in making that happen.”
SRCTC receives Managed IT services from ReadiTech, including support with the school’s wireless network, cybersecurity solutions, and camera systems. Simply put, “if it has a plug, ReadiTech will take care of it,” Zahn said.
By taking care of the technology at SRCTC, ReadiTech allows Spellerberg and his faculty to focus on what matters most: empowering students to achieve in their chosen courses and fostering enthusiasm about school, life, and the world of work.
“The customer service that ReadiTech provides is some of the best I’ve witnessed,” Spellerberg said. “We can’t do what we do without ReadiTech.”
When teaching courses through ITV, any downtime due to a disruption in the network can mean the difference between a lesson learned and a lesson lost. If teachers at SRCTC experience issues with their technology, ReadiTech is there to help within moments–either through remote access or on-site assistance.
“I’m based in Ellendale, so if SRCTC has a problem in Oakes, I can get over here in 30 minutes tops to help them out,” Zahn said. “We are able to resolve the issue with pretty minimal downtime.”
With Managed IT support and local customer service from ReadiTech, SRCTC is cultivating the next generation of mechanics, marketers, nurses, and even network technicians.
“It feels amazing to be able to give back to the community that I grew up in. It means a lot that I’m able to do that myself, with ReadiTech,” Zahn said. “Together, we are opening doors for students in Southeast North Dakota, just like they opened the doors for me.”
